Tracking Success
Determining the success of a new tool or system implementation is critical to its long-term viability and usefulness. To that end, NROC is providing access to data from your custom Hippocampus site to manage and demonstrate its use in your institution.
Google Analytics Tracking Data from HippoCampus.org
For NROC members who will be leveraging – in large part – their custom HippoCampus.org sites to provide NROC content to teachers, students, and staff, we offer a mechanism for tracking some of the usage data points from your custom Hippo site.
The information available in the Google Analytics site covers the basics:
- Number of site visits
- Point of entry and exit
- Bounce rate
- Average time visitors spent on the site
- Domain origination
Data can also be pulled for a specific period of time. For example, visits during the first three weeks of fall term or visits logged during the week prior to exam periods.
If you are interested in accessing Google Analytics for your custom HippoCampus site, please contact your Membership Manager or membership@montereyinstitute.org and we will walk you through the process.

REMEMBER: If teachers, students, and staff are not aware of the NROC content on your custom HippoCampus site, the resulting traffic will not accurately reflect the potential of these resources for your end users. The key to success here is AWARENESS!
If you are hosting the NROC content on a local server, Learning Object Repository (LOR), or Learning Management System (LMS), the Google Analytics data for your site will probably not be useful as your branded HippoCampus site will not be your primary user destination. Your local LMS or LOR should provide you with reporting capabilities that equal, and likely exceed, that of the Google interface.
